WBB | Dons Tie WCC Record and Defeat LMU in First Round of Championships

THE RUNDOWN
LAS VEGAS – For the sixth consecutive year, the University of San Francisco women's basketball team advanced past the first round of the West Coast Conference Championships. The Dons (16-14, 11-8) took down Loyola Marymount (19-11, 11-7), 89-76, Thursday evening at The Orleans Arena. In the win, the Dons tied a WCC Championships record, knocking down 14 3-point field goals. Anna Seilund attributed for six of those in her career-high tying performance.

With her 18 first-half points (8-for-13), Seilund helped the Dons get out to as much as a 16-point lead. As a team, USF shot well in the opening two frames, hitting 52.2 percent of all their shots. They also held LMU to just nine points in the first quarter. The Lions went 0-for-13 from 3-point range in the half, making it difficult to stay within range of USF. The Dons entered the locker room ahead 36-26.

Throughout the second half, Coach Goodenbour's squad responded well to any surges from the Lions, holding them off the rest of the way. Shannon Powell contributed 15 points in the fourth quarter alone to push the Dons past the Lions.
