SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco men's golf team captured 10th place with a tremendous performance on the final day of The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford at TPC Harding Park. The Dons moved up the leaderboard for the second consecutive day to finish in the top-10 of a loaded field that includes 12 teams ranked in the top-50 in the nation.
For the day, the Dons shot a 3-over 287 to give them a three-day score of 8-over 860. USF finished ahead of WCC foe Saint Mary's a, who are ranked No. 49.
"I thought we played really well as a group today," said head coach Jack Kennedy. "We definitely absorbed some body blows during the round but always found a way to bounce back. The overall finish was another success for our program. Now we must find away to recover mentally and physically for the challenge that awaits us at Chamber's Bay but we are excited for the opportunity to compete again."
Soren Lind started the final round on fire. The freshman tallied four birdies on the front-9, and five birdies total to finish the day with a 1-under 70 to finish the tournament tied for 15th, at 2-under with a three-day score of 211. Lind was the top finisher from the WCC. He finished the tournament with 12 birdies.
Toby Briggs finished second for the Dons. He ended the tournament T-38 after completing the third round with a 3-over 74. Briggs' two-day score of 2-over 215 featured seven birdies and 39 pars.
Tim Widing moved up seven spots on the final day to finish t-65
th. He finished the day with a 1-over 72. On the back-9 he carded four of his six birdies. He finished 6-over with a 219 for the tournament.
Jalen Griffin shot his best round of the tournament. He ended the day even par and recorded a three-day score of 8-over 221 to finish tied for 78
th. Griffin recorded six birdies in the tournament, three today.
Freshman
Alex Chin continues his strong spring season. He finished the tournament 10-over 223. Today he finished with a 4-over 75, for a three-day score of 10-over 223.
The Dons won't wait long to get back on to the golf course. They will travel to Seattle Monday morning to participate in the Redhawk Invitational hosted by Seattle University at Chambers Bay.
