Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB | Streak Ends at Seven, Dons Fall on the Road

HONOLULU – The University of San Francisco men's basketball team saw its seven game winning streak come to an end on Friday evening.  The Dons (7-1) battled back in the second half after a sluggish opening first period but could not hold on to the momentum gained, falling to Hawaii (5-2) 85-75 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

USF had four players in double figures and was led by center Jimbo Lull's career-high 24 points. He also added 10 rebounds for his third career double-double.  Lull was joined by Jamaree Bouyea (18 points), Charles Minlend (14), and Jordan Ratinho (10).  All three had tremendous second halves, led by Bouyea who scored 15 of his 18 after the intermission.

USF shot 46.6 percent from the field going 27-for-58 on the evening, they shot just 33.3 percent from 3-point range going 7-for-21.  They opened the game 0-for-5 from 3-point range and finished 2-for-12 in the first half.

Hawaii finished 20-for-24 from the free throw line and converted USF's 15 turnovers into 17 points.  Two Rainbow Warriors finished with 20 points and were led by Drew Buggs game-high 25 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After going up 4-0 on the first two possessions of the game, Hawaii went on an 11-2 run hitting a pair of deep 3-point field goal attempts.  During that stretch the Dons went just 1-for-6 from the field and committed three turnovers.

• After a USF miss from three, a pull up triple by Buggs gave Hawaii a 10-point lead – the largest deficit of the season thus far by the Dons. The Dons went into the locker room trailing for the first time all season, down nine 39-30.

• Lull was tremendous in the opening half. Matching his season-high 16 points by the intermission while grabbing six rebounds.  Lull was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, the only player for USF to make a 3-point field goal in the opening half.  The Dons were just 2-for-12 from long range to open the contest – from the field they were better going 12-for-29 (41.4) overall.

• Coming out of the break the Dons took the early momentum, another three by Lull – his third of the game keyed an early 7-0 run by USF that brought the game within two.

• A 12-2 run by the Dons over 3:45 midway through the second half gave USF their first lead since they were up 4-3 early in the first half.  Bouyea got a steal in the open court and took it the rest of the way to give USF the lead.  USF increased their lead to four with 10:48 left in the game with Josh Kunen getting a layup.  With the Dons leading by one, USF was called for a technical foul on a flop after shooting that gave Hawaii one shot plus the ball.  The Rainbow Warriors converted the free throw and on the ensuing possession got fouled and made both free throws to take a two point lead and control of the game.
