Frankie Ferrari: From One to 1,000

With the major milestone accomplished, it is time to take a look back at Frankie Ferrari's path to becoming the 36th player in USF history to score 1,000 career points.

Ferrari first suited up for the Dons on Nov. 16, 2014, when the Dons defeated South Carolina State, 91-52. He was one of 13 players for USF to score at least two points for the Dons that evening.  With 16 minutes, 16 seconds left in the second half Ferrari scored his first collegiate point on a layup. He finished that game 1 for 2 with two points in 13 minutes of action.

Ferrari finished his freshman season with 21 points. He averaged 1.3 points per game in 16 games played.

After sitting out a season, Ferrari made his return to the Hilltop in 2016-17. He didn't suit up for the first six games of the season, but he made his return appearance on Dec. 16, 2016, against Portland State. He scored his first bucket that season the following game against Abilene Christian on Dec. 19, 2016.  Ferrari's 100th career point came on Feb. 11, 2017, when he scored two points at Gonzaga. After two seasons, Ferrari had 151 career points.

Ferrari's junior campaign was his breakout season. He finished that year with 446 points, averaging 11.4 points per game. He became just the fourth player in USF history to score 400 or more points and dish out 150 or more assists in a single season.

That year, Ferrari scored his 200th point against Central Arkansas on Dec. 4, 2017.  Later that season he scored his 500th in the win over Pacific at the WCC Tournament on March 3, 2018.   After three seasons, Ferrari had 597 career points.

This season, the Dons co-captain continued his torrid scoring pace.  Ferrari scored his 750th career point on Dec. 29 at UC Santa Barbara. Finally, with 18:16 left in the second half at Santa Clara, he hit a triple in front of the Dons' bench to notch his 1,000th. On a side note, Ferrari needs just five more assists to give him 400 for his career, which would make him just the fourth player in USF history with 1,000 career points and 400 career assists.

The next two likely candidates to score 1,000 career points at USF are Jordan Ratinho, who currently has 945 points, and Charles Minlend who has 732 career points.

The Dons return to action Thursday evening when they host San Diego at 7 p.m. in a game that will be streamed on TheW.tv.
