Kruize Pinkins' game-high 16 points as USF raced to a 91-52 victory over South Carolina State in the Dons' season opener at Memorial Gymnasium.

Tim Derksen added 14 while senior
Chris Adams came off the bench to chip in 11 in leading the Dons to the 39-point victory over the Bulldogs (0-2).

All 17 players on the Dons roster saw court time tonight and 13 got into the scoring column.

Karon Wright had a team-high 13 points for South Carolina State.

The Dons shot 58.1 percent from the field while limiting South Carolina State (0-2) to just 29 percent shooting. USF held a 49-31 advantage on the boards.

USF jumped on the Bulldogs early and built an 18-4 lead with 11:12 remaining in the first half and eventually led by 27 points at intermission, 45-18.

Pinkins scored 14 of his 16 points in the first frame on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor while Tollefsen added 10 of his 14 points on the night before intermission.

USF used a 10-3 run to start the second half to increase its lead to 31 points at 55-21 with 14:20 left after Adams drilled one of his three second half three-pointers.

The Dons led by as many as 41 points late in the game before finishing with the 91-52 victory.

Freshman guard
Devin Watson finished with five points and a team-high five assists in a solid 21-minute playing stint.

"I thought we did a lot of things well tonight," said head coach
Rex Walters, who earned his 99
th USF coaching victory. "The game gave us an opportunity to play a lot of guys and see some different looks. We shot the ball well and was happy with our defensive effort. All in all, a good start."

USF will return to action on Wednesday night when the Dons face Notre Dame de Namur in Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
