CRESWELL, Ore. – After opening the final round slow, the University of San Francisco men's golf team finished the day strong. In doing so USF maintained its hold at seventh place finishing the tournament with a 25-over 889 (300-293-296) at the par-72 Emerald Valley Golf Club.
USF had two in the top-20 with
Toby Briggs and
Soren Lind both moving up the leaderboard on the final day. Briggs finished tied for fifth and Lind finished at a tie for 16
th.
"We once again battled back after a really tough start," said head coach
Jack Kennedy. "I was very pleased with our response to adversity but we need to find a way to get off to better starts. Luckily, we get right back at it Thursday at Stanford."
Briggs opened the round inauspiciously with a double bogey on six, following that, a bogey on 14 and four were the only blemishes on an otherwise stellar round. Briggs carded five birdies en route to a 1-under 71 on the day. He wrapped up the tournament with an even par 216 (77-68-71).
Lind climbed five spots on the final day finishing tied for 16
th. The Dons' sophomore was 1-over on the day go give him a 54-hole score of 220 (73-74-73). For the tournament, Lind was outstanding on the par-5s finishing the tournament with an average sore of 4.92 to go 1-under.
Tim Widing finished in third for the Dons, he captured tied for 41
st with a 10-over 226 (76-76-74). Widing climbed 11 spots on the final day.
Christoffer Palsson finished tied for 56
th while
Alex Chin came in tied for 76
th. Palsson finished with a 13-over 229 (76-74-80), while Chin carded a 19-over 235 (81-76-78).
Oregon State took home the team title finishing the tournament with a 3-under 861 (292-285-284). Oregon's Ryan Gronlund took home individual honors finishing with a 5-under 211 (70-72-69).
The Dons will turn it around quick, as they return to the course on Thursday to play in The Goodwin hosted by Stanford at the Stanford Golf Course.
