MGOLF | Widing In Top-10, the Dons Are In The Hunt

STANFORD, Calif. – After 36 holes the University of San Francisco men's golf program sits just outside the top 10 at The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford at the Stanford Golf Course. The Dons finished the day 12-over 292. After 36 holes USF is 20-over at 580 (288-292).
Junior Tim Widing is one of two Dons in the top 50. He ended the day tied for 10th after finishing with a 1-under 69. For the tournament he's shot an even par 140 (71-69). Widing was on fire on Friday, carding seven birdies on the day, including four-straight to start a blistering back-9. For the tournament Widing now has 10 birdies, which is tied for the tournament lead.
As a team USF has 32 birdies, which is second only to tournament host Stanford with 33. USF had a strong day on the par-3 and par-5 holes on Friday. The Dons were 9-under on par-5s and even par on the par-3s.
In second for the Dons was sophomore Toby Briggs, who carded a 6-over 76. After 36 holes he has a 6-over 146 (70-76). Briggs recorded birdies on 11 and one but could not avoid double bogies on two and six.
Freshman Christoffer Palsson climbed 16 spots on the leaderboard on the second day. He shot a 2-over 72. The highlight of the day was Palsson's eagle on the par-4 15th. After 36 holes, Palsson has a 7-over 147 (75-72).
Soren Lind is tied for 78th after finishing the day with a 6-over 176. For the tournament he is plus-nine at 149 (73-76). Alex Chin is tied with Lind at 78th after finishing day two with a 5-over par. After 36 holes he's at nine over 149 (74-75).
Tournament host Stanford is in the lead at 2-under 558 (279-279). They are the only team under par after 36 holes. The individual leader is Kaito Onishi, who finished with the day with 4-under 66 to finish 5-under 135 (69-66).
The Dons will wrap up the tournament tomorrow at 12:25. USF will be partnered with San Jose State and Colorado in the final pairing.
