MGOLF | Anderson Dazzles in Final Round of Carpet Capital Intercollegiate

ROCKY FACE, GA – The University of San Francisco men's golf team finished off its inaugural tournament of the 2019-20 season on Sunday. The Dons recorded their best round of the tournament, a 10-over 298 to finish the three day competition with a 35-over 899 (300-301-298).

Sophomore Matthew Anderson flew up the leaderboard on the final day, rising 20 spots for a tie at fourth with a 1-under 215 (75-73-67). It is Anderson's first career top-10 finish, his previous best was a tie at 23rd at the Olympic Club Invitational last spring.  The 5-under 67 was also his best collegiate round and second career round under par, it was tied with five other players as the best individual round in the tournament.

Anderson opened the round with a par on the par-4 10th, he followed that up with birdies on 11, 15, and 17 to go into the turn 3-under.  On the back-9 a bogey on the par-4 first was the lone blemish on his card.  Anderson would go on to card birdies on holes four, seven, and eight to finish 5-under of the day.  His six birdies on the final round gave him 10 for the weekend, a career-best for birdies in a 54-hole tournament.

Finishing in second for the Dons was senior Tim Widing who climbed 17 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 25th.  His 2-under 70 saw him finish the three day tournament with a 6-over 222 (73-79-70). On Sunday he recorded five birdies, giving him 12 for the tournament which was tied for 10th most in the tournament.

Alex Chin finished tied for 59th with a 16-over 232 (77-71-84).  Christoffer Palsson finished tied for 70th with a 20-over 236 (75-84-77).

Host Georgia Tech took home the team title with a 3-under 861 (284-285-292).  The Yellow Jacket's Luke Schniederjans was the medalist with a 9-under 207 (68-67-72)

The Dons will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 6 when they compete at the Maridoe Intercollegiate hosted by North Texas at the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas.
