USF AT A GLANCE
• USF is back on the road once again, this time traveling to San Luis Obispo, Calif., where the Dons will take on the Cal Poly Mustangs. USF is coming off their fifth game in the last eight days, but show no worse for the wear after defeating Nevada in Reno 85-60.  The 25 point road win by the Dons was their third largest road win by margin of victory against the Wolf Pack in series history.

• USF enters the contest averaging 72.8 points per game, while shooting .403 percent from the field.  USF is connecting on 35.4 percent of their attempts from long range, while their opponents have hit just 29.2 percent.  USF's foes are averaging 69.6 points per contest this season. Three players are averaging better than 10 points per game, Jamaree Bouyea and Khalil Shabazz both average 17.4 a game and Dzmitry Ryuny is averaging 12.4.

• Dons From Distance:  USF continues its torrid pace from long range.  The Dons have taken 161 attempts from beyond the arc connecting on 57 of them. USF's attempts and makes are both tops in the nation, slightly ahead of conference foe BYU who is second on both categories. Dzmitry Ryuny and Khalil Shabazz are both tied for second in the nation with 41 attempts.

• Best Backcourt in the Conference: The Dons duo of Khalil Shabazz and Jamaree Bouyea could make a claim for the most dominant backcourt in the WCC.  The two have combined to score 174 points, averaging 34.8 points per contest.  That ranks behind the duo of Colby Ross/Kessler Edwards average 41.5 a game, and Gonzaga's Drew Timme/Cory Kispert average 38.6 per contest.

• Unload the Bench:  In the win over the Wolf Pack head coach Todd Golden was presented a unique opportunity of getting everyone playing time against a quality opponent.  Every Don who suited up saw action on Wednesday.  Freshmen My Dusanic, Anthony Roy, and Justin Bieker all made their USF debut.

Series
The Dons and Mustangs will renew their series on Friday. It will be the ninth time the two teams have squared off and the sixth time since Cal Poly joined the NCAA Division I ranks.  All-time the Dons boast a 5-3 advantage in the series and are 1-1 in San Luis Obispo.  Since 1994-95, when Cal Poly became DI the Dons are 3-2 against the Mustangs. The series dates back to 1960 when USF traveled to Cal Poly and fell to the Mustangs 60-51. Last time out, Cal Poly came to War Memorial at the Sobrato Center and handed the Dons a 79-71 defeat on Dec. 15, 2014.

About the Mustangs
The Mustangs enter year two under head coach John Smith.  Last season, Cal Poly went 7-23 in his first year in San Luis Obispo.  The Mustangs were picked to finish eighth in the Big West, coming in ahead of CSUN and Cal State Fullerton. Cal Poly returns four starters from last year's team, including the return of center Hank Hollingsworth and top scorer, sophomore Colby Rogers. In the 2020-21 opener, Cal Poly decimated visiting Bethesda College, winning 100-46 on Nov. 27.  For the season, the Mustangs are shooting .552 percent from the field, while holding their opponents to a .281 field goal percentage. If game one of the 2020-21 season is any indication, the Mustangs love to share the ball.  Cal Poly had 31 assists out of 37 field goals in the win over Bethesda.

Last Time Out Versus Cal Poly
The Dons were outmuscled and outhustled by a Mustang team that entered the game with a 3-4 record. USF lost the battle of the boards for the first time this season, 41-30, allowed the Mustangs to shoot 50.9 percent from the field and made just 10-of-23 free throws on the night as the Dons record dipped to 5-5 on the year. Mark Tollefsen finished with a team high 16 points for USF while Kruize Pinkins added 14 and Tim Derksen 13 in a losing effort. Chris Adams also came off the bench to nail four 3-pointers en route to a season high 12 points. David Nwaba scored a game high 19 points for Cal Poly while Reese Morgan (17) and Brian Bennett (14) also reached double figures.
