CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's golf team is enjoying its view from the top. Fresh off a team championship at the Orange County Collegiate Classic, the Dons continue to play exceptional golf. After 36 holes, USF sits in first at the Lamkin Grips Intercollegiate after shooting a 4-under 575 (291-285) on Monday and the San Diego Country Club.
USF was led by senior
Tim Widing and junior
Soren Lind who finished the day tied for second. The duo finished with a 5-under 139, with Widing going 70-69 and Lind going 69-70. The two are also tied atop the tournament with 12 birdies apiece as the putter was on for USF's upperclassmen.
Today was Lind's best day this season, having just participated in four tournaments so far, the 12 birdies is already a season-best for a 54-hole tournament with 18 still to play. His two rounds under par give him back-to-back rounds under par for the first time since he went under par in all three rounds of the Visit Stockton Invitational last fall.
In third for the Dons was sophomore
Matthew Anderson who finished the day tied for 31
st. Anderson recorded day just two birdies on the day put carded a tournament-high 26 pars. He finished the day with a 4-over 148 (72-76).
Finishing fourth for USF was junior
Toby Briggs. Briggs opened the tournament with an 8-over 80 in the first round, but a terrific 3-under 69 in the second round has him sitting in 41
st with a 5-over 149 (80-69). The 3-under by Briggs is a season-best.
Alex Chin finished in 97
th with a 14-over 158 (82-76).
The Dons lead No. 3 Arizona State and No. 37 Tennessee by one stroke. The two teams finished with an even par 576. ASU's Cameron Sisk is the individual leader with a 6-under 138 (71-67).
The Dons will tee off with the Sun Devils, Volunteers and Texas A&M tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. for the third and final round. Fans can follow the live results at Golfstat.com
