Bouyea Named to Lou Henson Award Preseason Watch List

BOSTON, MA- The Watch List for the 2021-22 Lou Henson National Player of the Year award was announced on Thursday, Nov. 4.

For San Francisco, guard Jamaree Bouyea was named to the prestigious list for the 2021-22 season.

The award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in division I college basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.

Using his extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA during the COVID-19 pandemic, Bouyea returns to USF as a Preseason All-WCC pick for the second straight year after being named to the team in 2020-21. Proving to be one of the most versatile guards in the country on both sides of the ball, he will aim to build on last year's campaign in which he was named to the All-WCC First Team and the NABC All-District Second Team.

Notably, Bouyea was one of just 17 players in the country to make 170 or more field goals and shoot 50.0 percent or better from the field last season - of that list, Bouyea was one of two guards, the rest being forwards and centers. Individually, he averaged 17.3 points per game, good for the 20th most in a single season in USF history. In total, he played and started in all 25 games, leading the Dons in minutes played (33.7), field goal percentage (.500), three-point field goal percentage (.370), assists (94), points (432), and points per game (17.3).  Heading into this year, he currently ranks fourth in program history in steals (145), seventh in games played (127) and 26th in career points (1, 131).

Student-athletes from the following conferences are eligible for the Lou Henson Award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
