EL MACERO, Calif. – After a slow start to the round the University of San Francisco men's golf team caught fire late, shooting a low-round 11-under 277. After 36 holes the Dons sit atop the leaderboard with a 14-under 526 (285-277) at the El Macero Classic.
USF opened the round in fourth place, 10 back the leader Saint Mary's. USF, led by the hot start by
Tim Widing and
Christoffer Palsson, began their assent to the first after shooting a 10-under as a team over the final five holes.
The Dons finished the day with three players in the top-8 with Widing leading the charge. The Dons fifth year finished the day with a 4-under 68. After a strong start to the round bogeys on 10 and 12 had him even par. Over the final six holes he was lights out, carding four birdies to climb into the top-10. After 36-holes, Widing has a 4-under 140 (72-68)
Soren Lind and
Matthew Anderson are tied for eighth. Anderson climbed five spots on the leaderboard after shooting a 3-under 69 on the day. He was part of the Dons' late charge, carding four birdies in the last five holes. Lind is even with Anderson after shooting a 2-under 70.
Palsson finished the round 2-under. He was 3-under heading into the ninth hole – a bogey on the ninth was the lone blemish to his strong round. He carded nine pars on the back-9. After 36 holes he's currently tied for 14
th with a 2-under 142 (72-70).
Toby Briggs finished the day with a 1-over 73. After two days he is tied for 18
th with a 1-under 143 (71-73).
Alex Chin continues his strong play playing as an independent. He remains in the top-five after shooting a 2-under 70. After 36 holes he has a 5-under 139 (69-70).
The individual leader after two rounds is Fresno State's Matthew Sutherland with a 10-under 134 (68-66).
