SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The University of San Francisco men's golf team's season has come to an end. The Dons had their best round of the tournament, shooting a 16-over 296. USF moved up one spot on the leaderboard to finish in 29
th with a 56-over 896 (301-299-296).
The Dons finished the historic year, capturing four team championships in the nine tournaments they played in. Even after shooting 56-over in the NCAA Championship the Dons finished 35 strokes under par as a team.
On Sunday, USF opened the round four-under through three holes. Unfortunately, the Dons could not keep the momentum, going eight over on the final six holes.
Tim Widing closed out his Hall of Fame career in style, climbing 36 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 56
th with an even par 70, he missed the cut to advance as an individual by one stroke. After three rounds, Widing finished with an 8-over 215 (77-71-70).
Winding finished his career with 522 birdies, the last coming on a five-foot birdie putt on 17 following a beautiful iron shot from 160 yards out. His even par round gives him 74 for his career, in 134 rounds played.
Soren Lind finished in second for the Dons. He endedju the tournament with a 7-over 77 to capture 102
nd with a 13-over 223 (70-76-77). Lind carded five birdies on the day, giving him 10 birdies for the tournament. He finishes his fourth season 108 for the year, a career-best.
Fellow fourth year,
Toby Briggs finished in third for the Dons. He shot a 4-over 74 to finish the tournament at 15-over 225 (77-74-74). Briggs opened the round with eight straight pars.
Christoffer Palsson opened his round with back-to-back birdies on two and three. He finished the day with a 5-over 75 to finish tied for 136h with a 20-over 230 (77-78-75).
Matthew Anderson finished in 148
th with a 30-over 240 (78-83-79).
Oklahoma State led all 30 teams with a 12-under 828 after the opening three rounds, they were the only team under par after the first three rounds.
