SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference officially announced their weekly men's soccer awards for the week of Oct. 17 on Monday afternoon.
For USF, junior
Max Hamelink was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week while junior
Easton Harryman was selected as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
Notably, Hamelink's honor marks the first time this season in which a Don has been named WCC Offensive Player of the Week while USF also joins Loyola Marymount and Portland as the third school in the conference to sweep the weekly awards.
Closing out nonconference play in style,Hamelink impressed with a hat trick for the Dons on Saturday, Oct. 15 as USF took down Bay Area rival Cal Berkeley for the first time since 2007 with a 5-1 road win. Getting the scoring going, the midfielder notched the game's opening goal in the 14th minute for his first goal of the afternoon. In the second half, the Dutchman found the back of the net in the 79th minute before recording his hat trick on a penalty kick goal in the 88th minute.
Overall, Hamelink now leads USF with six total goals on the year, which is also tied for second in the WCC. Additionally, he also ranks tied for second in the conference in total points (14) while also being tied for eighth in total shots (22). Notably, Hamelink has also started and played in all twelve of USF's matches so far this fall.
For his efforts, Hamelink was also named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week.
