Men's Soccer Heads to Moraga for Saturday Showdown

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - After finishing up their final non-conference match last week with a big 5-1 victory over the California Golden Bears, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (7-3-2, 0-2 WCC) will resume WCC action this weekend. Heading to face a Bay Area foe, the Dons will take on the Saint Mary's Gaels (5-6-2, 0-1-1 WCC) this Saturday afternoon at Saint Mary's Stadium for their third game in conference play.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Following their win against the Bears, the Dons swept this week's WCC men's soccer awards for the first time this season as junior Max Hamelink earned Offensive Player of the week in addition to junior Easton Harryman being named Defensive Player of the week for their performances.
  • Hamelink scored a total of three goals for his first career hat trick as well as recording an assist on Saturday, Oct. 15 against Cal. He now leads the team in points with 14 on the season, which includes six goals and two assists. 
  • On the defensive side, Harryman was a stronghold in the Dons win last Saturday, playing the full 90 minutes and logging his first collegiate assist to lead junior Max Chretien to score his fourth goal of the season.  
  • As for WCC standings, the Dons have a player in the top five of each offensive category as Nathan Simeaon remains first in assists with eight, Hamelink sits at second in both goals and points, and finally Dominic Valdivia is ranked third in shots with 30 on the season. 
SCOUTING THE GAELS: 
  • In their most recent outing, the Gaels faced No. 5 Stanford as they lost to two late goals in the second half. Heading back into WCC play, the Gaels have yet to record a conference win this season.   
  • In the nets, goalkeeper Kash Oladapo has played eight games for SMC, recording his season-high of six saves in their last conference game against USD. Overall he has logged 23 saves on the season placing him seventh in WCC rankings. 
  • Controlling the Gaels offensively, sophomore Riley Lynch leads the team with eight points over 2 goals and 4 assists. He's played over 55 minutes in every match for SMC, recording 18 shots on the season. 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • The Gaels lead the all-time series between the two programs by a 13-6-3 record. In last season's matchup, the teams both battled for a result going through two overtime periods, but the match ultimately ended in a 2-2 draw on the Hilltop. USF's last win over SMC came during the 2017 season when they picked up a 4-2 victory at Negoesco Stadium.
