USF Welcomes Santa Clara, Pacific to Negoesco

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Returning to Negoesco Stadium for two home matches this week, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (7-3-3, 0-2-1 WCC) will face a couple of local rivals in conference as they will host Santa Clara (3-4-4, 0-1-2 WCC) for a midweek matchup on Wednesday evening before playing Pacific (2-8-2, 1-1-1 WCC) on Saturday night.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • In their last outing, the Dons faced Saint Mary's on Saturday Oct. 22, battling hard and earning a draw. The result counted as Eric Waltz's fifth shutout, he collected two saves in the match leading him to a total of 40 saves on the season. He is currently ranked fourth in the conference in saves. 
  • With four games left in conference play, the Dons hold second place on the WCC leaderboard in goals as nine different players have contributed to their team total of 24 goals. They also are ranked second in points with 67 and shots with 186. 
  • In the midfield, senior Kevyn Lo has been a key player for the Dons as he has played a full 90 minutes in nine of the 13 matches he has appeared in and started every game this year. 
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
  • Santa Clara have yet to get a win in conference play as they most recently faced San Diego in a 4-2 loss where they were able to score one goal in the first half to tie it 1-1 and another in the second half making the score 3-2 with a penalty kick. 
  • Additionally, both Bronco goalscorers, junior Adem Hamdaoua and redshirt junior Joshua Dabora, in the USD game on Oct. 22, logged their first goals of the season.  
  • Offensively, the Broncos are led in goals and points by junior transfer student Jesse Anamoo who has scored two goals and logged one assist for a total of eight points on the season.  
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
  • The Tigers are coming off of their first conference win against Gonzaga on Saturday Oct. 22 as Ryan Her scored his fifth goal of the season, followed by Senior Derick Roque who was able to record his first goal of the season. 
  • In goal, Eric Cotton faced 13 shots and recorded three saves against the Bulldogs in their last match, adding to his season total of 24 saves. 
  • An offensive asset for the Tigers, senior Samuel Saiz Herraiz leads the team in shots with 22 on the season. Additionally, the forward has started and played more than 65 minutes in every game this year.  
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Santa Clara holds the overall series with a record of 15-7-1 over the Dons. In their last match during the fall 2021 season, the Broncos won 3-1 at their home field. 
  • Against Pacific, the Dons lead the series 5-4 overall. Last fall season, the Tigers earned a 5-1 win at their home field.
