SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Returning to their home pitch on a cool, wet night in the Bay Area, the USF Dons men's soccer team (7-5-3, 0-4-1) were unable to build much momentum as they fell short by a 2-0 final score against the Pacific Tigers (3-9-2, 2-2-1) on Saturday at Negoesco Stadium.
Dons' junior goalkeeper Eric Waltz had a big game in goal by recording four saves against UOP, while on the offensive side of the ball for USF senior midfielder Dominic Valdivia led the way by recording three shots in Saturday night's match.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- The first half of action was a defensive struggle with neither side able to build much momentum as both teams went into halftime tied 0-0 as the Tigers out shot the Dons by an 8-2 margin.
- UOP was able to find the back of the net early in the second half at the 49 minute mark to give the visiting side the early 1-0 lead with plenty of game remaining.
- Pacific was able to score again a few minutes later at the 57 minute mark that put the Tigers up 2-0 which ended up being the final score despite the Dons out shooting the Tigers 16-12 for the match and by a 14-4 margin in the second half.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Waltz continued his strong season in goal for the Dons as he recorded four saves against UOP while facing 12 total shots in the match.
- Valdivia and freshman forward Omar Juarez led the way for USF's offense on Saturday as both recorded three shots in the match as two of Valdivia's shot attempts were on goal.
- Also contributing to USF's attack was junior midfielder Max Hamelink and senior forward Andri Jonasson as each recorded two shots in Saturday's match.
