SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference officially announced the 2021-22 WCC Women's Golf Awards on Monday afternoon.
For San Francisco, head coach
Sara Doell was named the WCC Co-Coach of the Year while freshman
Riana Mission and senior
Annika Borrelli were named to the All-WCC Women's Golf Team.
Compiling one of the most dominant seasons by a freshman this year, Mission finished in the top ten in all six tournaments this spring, which included four straight top five finishes to begin the calendar year. At the WCC Championship at Reflection Bay Golf Club, the Las Vegas native tied for sixth overall. This year, Mission's lowest round (67) came in the second round of the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational, which the Dons hosted at Meadow Club in Fairfax. Awaiting more postseason play, Mission currently ranks No. 85 in Golfstat's individual rankings.
Wrapping up her career as a Don, Borrelli put together another impressive year as the Alamo, Calif. native earned All-WCC honors for the third straight season. This spring, Borrelli recorded two top ten finishes while also placing eleventh overall at the WCC Championship. Notably, Borrelli's lowest rounds came in the third and final rounds of the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational and the Fresno State Classic, when she shot a 71. Prior to the start of the year, Borrelli was also named to the 2021-22 WCC Women's Golf Preseason Team. Earlier in her career, Borrelli was crowned the 2021 NCGA Women's Amateur Champion and the 2019 NCGA Women's Player of the Year.
For Doell, the fifth-year coach of the Dons earns her fourth career conference coach of the year honor as she previously was named Big East Coach of the Year three times during her tenure at Seton Hall. Continuing to grow her program on the Hilltop, USF earned their first tournament victory under Doell when the Dons finished first over at the Valley Invitational on Feb. 7 + 8. In the tournament, four of USF's five individuals (
Jade Siphomsay/T-5
th, Mission/T-5
th,
Toni St John/T-8
th and Borrelli/T-10
th) placed in the top ten while
Toni Sottile finished twenty-first overall. As a whole, Doell guided USF to four top five finishes in five regular season competitions this year.

CATCHING UP WITH: COACH DOELL:
On Annika Borelli- "This is the third time that Annika has earned a place on the WCC All-Conference Team and it is so well-deserved. Annika has been a mainstay in our lineup as she both led us on the course and behind-the-scenes as a phenomenal co-captain. Annika will be greatly missed as she goes across the Bay for her fifth year to compete for Cal. Thank you, Annika for all you have done for our program and congratulations on an incredible year and career at USF!"
On Riana Mission- "It is no surprise that Riana is on the all-conference team. She has had a phenomenal year with top ten finishes in every event this spring. Our team had the best year we had in the last six years and Riana was a strong catalyst for this success. The fact that she is only a freshman is exciting as she has a strong future ahead of her as a Don!"
On being named WCC Co-Coach of the Year- "I am extremely honored and grateful to be selected for this award. Thank you to my fellow colleagues around the conference for their constant support year-round. It has been my mission to create a consistent competitive culture here at USF, and none of this would be possible without the student-athletes. My name might be on the award this year, but they are the true superstars."
