SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- In a game that honored the late memory of former Dons head men's soccer coach Steve Negoesco, the USF Dons men's soccer (4-0-2) were ready to go from the opening kick as they picked up a resounding 6-0 victory over the Cal Poly Mustangs (0-5) Monday night on the Hilltop.
USF was able to score fast and in furious fashion with the Dons leading 2-0 at the half before a flurry of goals to begin the second half gave the team some breathing room as they remain undefeated on the 2022 season.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- On a cool, beautiful evening in San Francisco both teams spent the early portions of the game feeling the opposition out before USF was able to strike first with a goal from Max Hamelink off a pretty feed from Nathan Simeon to give the Dons an early 1-0 lead.
- The Dons were able to tack on another at the 38 minute mark as Reid Roberts recorded his first collegiate goal off a nice feed from Elias Thomas as USF took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
- Coming out of the break the Dons went on a goal scoring fury as Zane Alafranji got the party started with his first collegiate goal off a good pass from Dominic Valdivia as USF led 3-0 just 35 seconds into the second half.
- Working to put the Mustangs away for good, Valdivia was able to add a goal of his own at the 47 minute mark as Cal Poly had zero answers or resistance for the offensive attack of the Dons.
- Fresh off the bench and ready to make an impact, Arjan Dosanjh found the back of the net at the 49 minute mark as the party at Negoesco continued for USF to the tune of a 5-0 lead.
- The final icing on the victory cake came when Mason Dougherty became the third USF player to record his first goal in college off a great feed from Donsanjh as the historic night for the program continued as the Dons picked up their fourth victory of the season by a final score of 6-0.
