BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Notching their first victory on the road this season, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (5-0-2) blanked CSU Bakersfield (2-4-1), 3-0, on Saturday night to remain undefeated and record their fourth shutout of the year.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Firing on offense right out of the gates, Rodrigo Bueno registered the first shot of the match for USF at 2:53, but was unable to deliver the initial strike for the green and gold. Just minutes later, however, Andri Jonasson found the back of the net at 20:01 on an assist from Nathan Simeon to put the Dons on top early, 1-0.
- As the first half played on, USF continued to apply pressure on CSU Bakersfield, which included additional shots on target from Bueno and Jonasson. Outshooting the Runners 9-4 in the first 45 minutes of action, the Dons maintained their 1-0 advantage heading into the locker room.
- Keeping their foot on the gas pedal, USF tallied three more shots coming out of halftime before Jonasson beat the CSU Bakersfield keeper for the second time in the 57th minute to notch his first brace of the year and put the Dons up, 2-0.
- Less than one minute later, USF padded their lead on Arjan Dosanjh's third goal of the year, which came on a beautiful assist from Simeon once again as the green and gold held a 3-0 lead after 60 minutes.
- Aiming to defend their home field, CSU Bakersfield attempted to climb back down the stretch, but the USF defense held strong through the full 90 minutes of play once again. Following another strong defensive effort, the Dons shutout the Runners, 3-0, to grab their fifth win of the season and first away from the Hilltop this fall.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Turning heads to begin the season, Simeon logged his seventh and eighth assists of the year on Saturday night as the senior now leads NCAA Division I with eight total assists through seven matches so far.
- After coming back from a knee injury, Dosanjh has been impressive for the Dons as the Sacramento native has scored in three of his five matches so far this year.
- Serving as an anchor on the back line, Reid Roberts played a full 90 minutes for the sixth time in seven matches this season as the freshman continues to play an integral role for the USF defense.
UP NEXT:
USF will return to Northern California for another road matchup next week as the Dons are set to travel to Sacramento State on Thursday, Sept. 22 for a 4:00 pm showdown. Live streaming and live statistics will be available via the
