Dons Earn Team Title at Howard/USF Intercollegiate

POTOMAC, MD – The University of San Francisco men's golf team enjoyed success from the jump as the Dons earned the team title at the Howard-USF Intercollegiate following strong performances on Monday and Tuesday. Overall, the Dons (26-over-866) finished eleven strokes better than the second placed team and co-hosts, Howard (37-over-877).
 
Hosted at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Maryland, this tournament win marks USF's first tournament victory since the Dons finished first overall as a team at the Ping Cougar Classic on Apr. 23 + 24, 2021. 
 
TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
 
*Park, Brown, Sodhi competed as individuals 
  • Beginning the tournament on a high note, USF sat atop the leaderboard after day one as the Dons caught fire as a team out of the gates. Notably, Ben Partridge shot rounds of 68-68 (-4) to sit in sole possession of first place after the first 36 holes. Additionally, Jakob Melin (-1, 68-71/third), Matthew Anderson (+2, 70, 72/seventh) and Jackson Rothwell (+4, 69, 75/tied for eighth) all ranked inside the top ten respectively as well. Individually, Brian Park also delivered a strong performance as he was in second place (-2, 70, 68) while Harry Brown sat in twenty-fourth (+11, 77, 74) after day one.
  • Playing a tough course after competing in New Mexico just two days prior, the Dons battled through their final 18 holes on Tuesday, but were ultimately able to hold onto their lead and secure their first tournament win of the year by eleven strokes. For USF, Anderson and Jakob Melin finished tied for second, (4-over-214), Park and Partridge tied for sixth (5-over-215), Partridge tied for sixth and Rothwell tied for twelfth (13-over-223). Rounding out the scoring for the Dons, Renato Naula tied for 42nd (33-over-243) while Paramdeep Sodhi placed fiftieth (50-over-260).
  • Overall, Park led USF with 34 pars while Melin and Rothwell were close behind with 32 each. Additionally, Anderson led the field with 12 birdies across three rounds while Partridge and Melin each recorded 10 birdies as well. 
UP NEXT:
USF will take the next couple of weeks to rest and regroup after competing in two tournaments across five days as the Dons will not compete again until the Wolfpack Classic (hosted by Nevada) in Reno, Nev. on Oct. 11 + 12.
