USF Athletics Announces Title IX 50th Anniversary Celebration Plans

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. – In honor of the 50th anniversary of the passing of Title IX, the University of San Francisco athletic department will recognize the history and legacy of women's sports on the Hilltop through the remainder of the academic year.

Each month, a new feature will be released via usfdons.com and social media channels as USF will honor a handful of individuals who have made an impact in women's sports on the Hilltop. Additionally, content will be released during on Nationals Girls and Women in Sports Day in February as the department remembers the influential women that helped shape USF Athletics.

"The 50th year of Title IX is worth celebrating with great enthusiasm as we think back to the number of remarkable outcomes that have been achieved by young women that seized opportunities," said Director of Athletics Larry Williams. "That is especially true here at USF. We look forward to even higher achievement in the future."

Title IX is a federal civil rights law in the United States of America that was passed as part (Title IX) of the Education Amendments of 1972. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or other education program that receives funding from the federal government.
