SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco (USF) Athletics department will present Zalka A. Ancely and Marty Becker with the annual Jim Brovelli Award at the Dons Basketball Tip-Off Reception this upcoming Thursday, Oct. 9.
Ancely, who was born and raised in San Francisco, graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy before attending the University of San Francisco. Earning her BA in 1981 and her MBA in 1984, Ancely then began her career with the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. She continued working as a Federal Regulator with the Office of Thrift Supervision and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Despite traveling nationwide and internationally for the US Treasury, Ancely always kept an eye on USF Athletics and would attend women's basketball games when she was in the area.
Â
Becker grew up nearby in Palo Alto before her family moved to Southern California. A graduate of San Marino High School in San Marino, Calif., Becker attended several institutions of higher learning before earning her BA from Sacramento State in 1984, Becker went on to work as a paralegal for the former Law firm of Heller Erhman. She later entered the Privacy sector as an Account Executive for TRUSTe (now TrustArc).
Â
Ancely and Becker met through their mutual love of sports. It wasn't long before Becker became a USF Basketball fan. The two quickly became season ticketholders for the women's program, and later the men's program. They can both be found courtside at the women's games and in the '51 Dons section for the men's games. Â
Â
Both are strong advocates of the USF women's basketball program. The duo attend almost every home game at USF, along with many road games, to support the team. Over the years, they have developed lasting relationships with the coaches, athletics staff, players, and their families.
Â
We invite you to join us in celebrating Ancely, Becker, and the Jim Brovelli Award at the Dons Basketball Tip-Off Reception on Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5:30-7:30 pm, which serves as the official start of the 2025-26 men's and women's basketball seasons. Tickets and information are available
here.
The Jim Brovelli Award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding commitment, loyalty, dedication, and service to USF's basketball program over the years. The award is named in honor of Jim Brovelli, whose Hall of Fame contributions to USF basketball as a player, coach, and broadcaster span six decades.
