KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three members of the University of San Francisco men's soccer team, Eric Waltz, Gabriel Bracken Serra, and Reid Roberts, were named to the 2023 United Soccer Coaches West All-Region Teams, announced by the organization on Monday.
The trio were named to the prestigious list for the first time in their careers, with Waltz earning Second Team All-Region, while Bracken Serra and Roberts garnered Third Team honors.
The reigning WCC Goalkeeper of the Year, Waltz, appeared in all 17 games and posted multiple dominant performances for the Dons this past season. During conference play, Waltz finished tied for first in shutouts (six), third in goals against average (.848), fourth in saves (45), and fourth in save percentage (.763). The San Jose native was crucial for the Dons down the stretch when he recorded back-to-back road shutouts at Pacific on October 21 and Santa Clara on October 25.
Leading the team offensively throughout the season, Bracken Serra directed the Dons and ranked sixth in the WCC in goals with six. His 35 total shots were good for seventh in the conference, while his 14 shots on goal tied him for eighth. Aside from scoring, the Berkeley native also impressed by spreading the wealth as he tied for seventh in the conference in assists (five). Overall, his 17 points on the season ranked him sixth in the WCC.
Roberts, competing in his second season with the team, helped guide the Dons defensively and established himself as one of the best defenders in the nation over the past few months. As the only underclassman selected to the conference's First Team, he helped lead one of the WCC's strongest backlines and led the country in defensive duels won. Starting and playing in all 17 of San Francisco's matches this fall, Roberts finished second on the team in total minutes (1,506), as he was a workhorse for the Dons all season.
