SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference officially announced their end of season awards for the 2022-23 men's basketball season on Wednesday morning.
For San Francisco, guards
Khalil Shabazz and
Tyrell Roberts were named to the All-Conference First Team. Notably, Shabazz has earned a spot on an All-WCC team for the third straight year while Roberts' selection makes it the second straight year in which USF has had two First Team selections (
Jamaree Bouyea and
Yauhen Massalski in 2021-22).
Capping off his career on the Hilltop with another dominant season,
Shabazz finished first in the conference in steals (67), second in minutes (1,0789), three-pointers made (80) and free throws made (132), third in free throw percentage (85.7), fourth in minutes per game (34.68) and points (534), fifth in points per game (17.2) and tenth in assists (90). Overall, the versatile guard started and played in all 31 games for USF, scoring 20+ points in 14 of those contests, which included two 30-point performances. On the defensive side of the ball,
Shabazz led the league with 2.2 steals per game. Notably, the 6'0" guard also led USF in rebounding with 169 total rebounds and an average of 5.5 rebounds per game. Breaking milestones all season, the Seattle native has climbed up the program's all-time
leaderboard as he currently ranks first all-time in three pointers made (284), third in steals (230), tied for fourth in free throw percentage (81.7) and fifth all-time in scoring (1,733) heading into his final WCC Tournament.
Impressing in his lone season in San Francisco, Roberts hit the ground running as he scored in double figures for 24 straight games to begin the season. Serving as a workhouse for first year head coach
Chris Gerlufsen, Roberts led the WCC in total minutes (1.089) while also ranking third in minutes per game (35.1), fourth in three-pointers made (79), sixth in field goals made (171), seventh in points (494), points per game (15.9) and free throw percentage (82.0) as well as eighth in stelas (39). Within the team, Roberts ranked second in three-piont percentage (39.3), free throw percentage, points per game and steals while also sitting third in assists (37). Similar to Shabazz, Roberts also eclipsed 30+ points twice.
