DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • In their toughest contest at home this season, San Francisco made a valiant comeback effort in the second half on Tuesday night, trimming an 18-point deficit to just three points. Still, the Dons were unable to steal the victory away from Saint Mary's as the Gaels secured an 82-68 victory on the Hilltop. Rebounding was a rare struggle for USF, as Saint Mary's won the battle on the glass, 39-27, the most rebounds by a Dons opponent this season, and a season-low rebounding total for the green and gold.
  • Four Dons scored in double-figures against SMC, including Tyrone Riley IV scoring a team-high 17 points, with 12 of those points coming in the second half. This performance marked the third consecutive double-digit scoring game for Riley IV. Close behind, Ryan Beasley finished with 15 points to go along with a career-high seven assists. David Fuchs logged yet another double-double, his fourth in the last six games, with 12 points and a team-high 11 boards. Fuchs continues to lead the conference in rebounding in WCC play (9.4 per game).
  • Despite dropping two of its last three, San Francisco still sits at fourth in the WCC standings, as the Dons are one of four teams with a conference record above .500 (Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, Santa Clara).
  • Sunday's contest against Washington State will be the green and gold's last home game for the next two weeks, as they head to Spokane for one last time to face Gonzaga next Saturday, Jan. 24, before trekking to the South Bay on Wednesday, Jan. 28, to battle Santa Clara.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS:
  • After wrapping up its nonconference schedule at the bottom of the WCC standings, Washington State has found some rhythm in conference action, recording a 3-3 record so far in league play to sit at fifth in the standings heading into Sunday afternoon.
  • Last time out, WSU fell to No. 9/9 Gonzaga at home on Thursday night in an 86-65 loss. Three Cougars scored 16 points against the Bulldogs in freshman Ace Glass, junior Jerone Morton, and senior Simon Hildebrandt, notably marking new season-highs in scoring for Morton and Hildebrandt.
  • A star in his freshman season, Glass has been one of the WCC's best first-year players as he has won two WCC Freshman of the Week awards, leading Wazzu in scoring with 15.9 points per game, the lone double-figure scorer on his squad. Glass has the highest-scoring game by a WCC player this season, scoring 40 points on Nov. 25 against Arizona State, as he is one of just 12 players in Division I to have a 40-point game this season.
  • USF will look to take advantage of WSU's turnover struggles, as the Cougars rank last in the WCC in turnover margin (-4.83) and assist-to-turnover ratio (0.84) within conference play.
  • Sunday evening's matchup on the Hilltop will mark the final regular season conference game between the Dons and the Cougars, as Washington State will transition back to the newly realigned Pac-12 conference following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • In the final regular season conference matchup between the two programs, Sunday evening will mark just the sixth all-time meeting between San Francisco and Washington State, with the Cougars holding a narrow 3-2 lead in the all-time series. The Dons and Cougars met three times last season, with the home team winning each regular season contest, followed by a matchup in the WCC Championship Quarterfinals, where San Francisco cruised to an 86-75 victory as Ryan Beasley scored a then-career-high 29 points.
