Three Dons Earn All-WCC Honors, Melin Named Freshman of the Year

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – With the recent completion of the 2023 West Coast Conference Championship, the WCC officially announced the Men's Golf All-Conference Team and award winners for the 2022-23 season on Monday afternoon.

For San Francisco, graduate student Matthew Anderson was named to the All-Conference Team while Jakob Melin was named the WCC's Freshman of the Year in addition to being an Honorable Mention. Furthermore, Ben Partridge also was awarded selected as an Honorable Mention for his efforts this year.

WCC all-conference selections and major individual awards were selected solely by the nine conference head coaches.

Enjoying his most successful season as a Don, Anderson led the charge for USF this year as the Canadian tallied four top ten finishes individually, including his past three tournaments. Notably, Anderson fired his career-low of 64 (-08) in the first round of the El Macero Classic in Davis on Friday, Apr. 14. Overall, his best finish came when he tied for second at the Howard/USF Collegiate Invitational at TPC Potomac on Sept. 26 + 27. Leading the way, Anderson was the top finisher for the green and gold that tournament as the Dons claimed their first team crown since Apr. 2021 with the win. Impressively, he has placed in the top 25 individually in 8 of USF's 11 tournaments so far this year.

Making an immediate impact upon his arrival on the Hilltop, Melin has been a force to be reckoned with since his first competition as a Don. Starting out on a strong foot, the Swede tied for eight in his first collegiate tournament as he shot 2-under-211 to finish as the high man for the USF. Similar to Anderson, Melin compiled three top ten finishes individually, which included tying Anderson for second at the Howard/USF Collegiate Invitational. Last weekend, the freshman shot 4-under-212 at the WCC Championship at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. to tie for eighth. Notably, Melin becomes the first Don to be named Freshman of the Year since Toby Briggs earned the award in 2018.

Joining his teammate on the Honorable Mention list, Partridge dominated from the jump after coming to USF following a successful career at the junior college level. Overall, the freshman began his Division I career on a high note as he tied for 17th with a 2-over-215 at the USF Intercollegiate. Notably, Partridge tracked up three top ten finishes as well as five inside of the top 25. Overall, his best finished came when he shot 11-under-205 to tie for second at the Wolfpack Classic in Reno on Oct. 10 + 11.
