SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Golf Coaches Association of America recently announced the NCAA Division I PING All-Region honorees this past weekend.
For San Francisco,
Matthew Anderson was named to the Division I West Region Team for 2022-23. With this honor, Anderson also becomes the first Don to earn this award since Tim Widing in 2019-20.
Enjoying his most successful season as a Don, Anderson led the charge for USF this year as the Canadian tallied six top ten finishes individually, including one in each of his past five tournaments. Notably, Anderson fired his career-low of 64 (-08) in the first round of the El Macero Classic in Davis on Friday, Apr. 14.
Overall, his best finish came when he tied for second at the Howard/USF Collegiate Invitational at TPC Potomac on Sept. 26 + 27. Leading the way, Anderson was the top finisher for the green and gold that tournament as the Dons claimed their first team crown since Apr. 2021 with the win. Impressively, he placed in the top 25 individually in 10 of USF's 13 tournaments this year.
In his second appearance in the NCAA Championships this past weekend, Anderson capped off his illustrious career by finishing as the top individual from a non-advancing team by tying for eleventh overall at even-par (280/68, 71, 70, 71). With this finish, he also was named an All American as the top 15 individuals on the final leaderboard at Grayhawk were bestowed this honor.
Notably, Anderson finished at No. 46 in Golfstat's NCAA Division I rankings following the conclusion of the athletic year.
