DONS AT A GLANCE:
- San Francisco enters the 2024 season under second-year head coach Rob DiToma after finishing the previous campaign in ninth place in the WCC standings. Highlighted by wins over Utah, Villanova, and Washington State, the Dons concluded 2023 with an 18-29 record, with 14 victories coming on the Hilltop.
- Adam Shew returns for the green and gold to lead a pitching staff that only returns five members from the 2023 season. Shew finished last season with a 3-3 record on the bump, a 5.26 earned-run average, and ranked second on the team with 58 strikeouts. The junior righthander from Brookings, Ore., earned his first win of the spring in a 3-1 victory over Utah, throwing five strong innings, allowing three hits, and accumulating eight strikeouts.
- Offensively, Michael Campagna recorded a .260 batting average while earning 42 starts behind the plate. The Dons' catcher racked up 39 hits in 150 at-bats, with six doubles, one triple, and four home runs, while recording a team-high 26 walks.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS:
- Fairleigh Dickinson enters the 2024 season on a high note after completing last season with a 31-21-1 record and a third-place finish in the Northeast Conference.
- Offensively, the Knights are led by Hunter D'Amato, who finished the 2023 season with a team-best .411 batting average. In 53 games for the Knights, D'Amato totaled 85 hits in 207 at-bats, 56 RBI, and posted a .481 on-base percentage.
- Losing their top three pitchers from a season ago, the Knights will look to Patrick Gardner, who accumulated a 3-1 record in 20 appearances. The sophomore southpaw ranked fourth on the team last season with a 4.35 earned-run average while recording 43 strikeouts in 39.1 innings pitched.
