SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Opening West Coast Conference play on the Hilltop, the University of San Francisco baseball team (15-11, 0-1 WCC) dropped a 5-0 decision to Santa Clara (13-10, 1-3 WCC) Thursday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Santa Clara jumped ahead in the second inning on a Dylan Joyce two-out solo home run over the right-field wall.
- The Broncos added to their lead in the following inning when Efrain Manzo recorded a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring JonJon Berring to push the advantage to 2-0.
- San Francisco threatened in the bottom of the fourth inning, loading the bases on base hits from Michael Campagna and TJ Rogers and a Zack Ramppen walk. The Dons, however, failed to cut into the deficit when Patrick Keighran grounded into a force out at third base.
- Manzo came through in the fifth, posting a long two-run home run to left field, giving the Broncos a 4-0 lead.
- The Broncos added one more run in the top half of the sixth to increase their lead to 5-0.
- San Francisco continued to battle throughout the remainder of the game but failed to plate a run, finishing the contest with eight runners left on base.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- The Dons totaled three hits, with JT Amaral, Campagna, and Rogers recording base hits throughout the game.
- Max Jones and Hunter Holzemer shut out Santa Clara in the game's final three frames, allowing a combined one hit while Holzemer recorded two strikeouts.

Due to weather, San Francisco's matchup with Santa Clara set for tomorrow at 1 p.m. has been moved to a doubleheader starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 30, at Benedetti Diamond.
