COLUMBIA, Mo. - Beginning a crucial week as the regular season wraps up, the University of San Francisco men's golf team continued their momentum after a strong showing at The Goodwin by tying for third overall as a team at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational (hosted by Missouri) on Monday and Tuesday.
Notably, the Dons shot 8-under-844 as a group as four student-athletes -
Jakob Melin,
Harry Brown,
Jackson Rothwell and
Svante Palmgren all placed in the top 20 individually.
TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
- San Francisco finished in a tie for third place overall, placing behind only Iowa State and host No. 37 Missouri. On Day 1, after finishing 3-over-287 in round one, the green and gold bounced back to record the field's lowest round two score at 13-under-271, led by Jakob Melin, who shot a season-low 64 in round two.
- Both Harry Brown and Jackson Rothwell helped boost USF's rise in round two as each shot a 67 across the round, which marked season-bests for both seniors.
- Closing out the tournament, four Dons shot par or better in round three, including Melin (71), Brown (71), Ben Partridge (70), and Svante Palmgren, who tied a season-best in his first year on the Hilltop by shooting a 67.
- Continuing to lead the team, Melin claimed his fourth top five finish of the season as the sophomore finished in a tie for fourth overall, shooting 5-under-208 (73, 64, 71). Rounding out the top 20 finishers for USF, Brown finished in a tie for 12th shooting 2-under-211 (73, 67, 61) while Rothwell (71, 67, 74) and Palmgren (70, 75, 67) finished in a tie for 16th at 1-under-212. Impressively, Brown's finish marked his highest as a Don as it also marked his second top 20 finish of the year.
- Rounding out the lineup for San Francisco, Partridge tied for 42nd at 4-over-217 (70, 77, 70) while Renato Naula tied for 73rd at 10-over-223 (74, 73, 76).
- Additionally, Rothwell recorded two eagles in the tournament, which lead the field, while Melin recorded 13 birdies, which tied for the ninth most among all participants.
