SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Highlighted by Blake Pitt's recording his first-career home run, the University of San Francisco baseball team (20-31, 3-18 WCC) dropped the series finale 7-2 to San Diego (37-13, 20-4 WCC) Sunday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Diego jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the top of the second inning to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
- San Francisco cut into the deficit the following frame when Matty Fung scored on a Myles Kallinger base hit to left field, trimming the Toreros' advantage to 3-1.
- The Toreros expanded their lead in the fifth, scoring another three runs to go ahead 6-1.
- Trailing 7-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Pitts hit a pinch-hit solo home run over the right field wall, his first career long ball to make it 7-2.
- The Dons continued the rally throughout the frame with Logan Azem and Lane Oliphant reaching on a walk and a single. The Toreros, however, evaded the threat with a strikeout and a force out at second base to end the Dons' comeback efforts.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Oliphant and Kallinger combined for four of the Dons' seven hits, with Kallinger going two-for-five with a double and an RBI. Oliphant, one of six seniors honored before the contest, picked up two singles in four at-bats.
- Quentin Pohorski and Max Jones pitched a clean eighth and ninth innings, allowing a combined four hits while striking out one batter.
