San Francisco Athletics Remembers Robert A. "Bob" Braghetta

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco Athletics family is saddened to acknowledge the passing of Robert A. "Bob" Braghetta, a former student-athlete and coach for the USF men's soccer team who also was a 1973 USF Athletics Hall of Fame inductee.

Born in San Francisco on July 14, 1935, Braghetta attended Saint Ignatius College Prepatory before coming to the Hilltop, where he played basketball, baseball, soccer and track in addition to being elected senior class president.

During his time on the Hilltop, Braghetta served as a goalkeeper for the men's soccer team and graduated from USF with a bachelor's degree in marketing in 1957.

After teaching nearby at Polytechnic High School in San Francisco for four years, Braghetta returned to campus to serve as head coach of the men's soccer team in 1961 as he served as the bridge between two NSCAA Hall of Fame coaches - Gus Donoghue (final year in 1960) and Steve Negoesco (first year in 1962). During that season, Braghetta guided the Dons to a 6-2-1 (.722) overall record.

In 1973, Braghetta would earn the prestigious honor of being elected into the San Francisco Athletics Hall of Fame. Notably, he also assisted with USF Annual Fund Drives.
