Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Team Effort Powers Dons Past Spartans

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Closing out its nonconference slate in dominant fashion, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (1-5-2) blanked San José State (1-4-3), 4-0, on Monday night as the Dons used four goals from four different players to race past the Spartans.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Almost beginning the match with a bang, Adrian Media hit the post on San Francisco's first shot attempt of the night just 30 seconds into play as the Dons barely missed an early opportunity to jump out to a lead. Shortly thereafter, Isaiah Easley also hit the top crossbar as USF remained persistent on offense to start.
  • Following a yellow card from Diego Nieves at 20:42, Easley made up for it as the forward made a beautiful move on his penalty kick to trick the Spartan goalie and put the green and gold in front, 1-0.
  • As the half played on, the two sides remained fairly even as Rylan Smith logged a shot of his own at 26:40. Denying the opposition through the opening 45 minutes of action, San Francisco maintained their 1-0 advantage at the halftime break.
  • Coming out of the locker room, SJSU would record the first three shots of the second half, but it was USF who capitalized on a ball in the box as Junhwan Park passed to David Raphael before the freshman put home his first collegiate goal at 64:23. With the strike, the green and gold extended their lead to 2-0.
  • Just a few minutes later, Park got in on the scoring himself as Gabriel Bracken Serra found the freshman at 71:20 to push the score to 3-0 in favor of the Dons.
  • Making the most down the stretch, Chris Maldonado joined the part at 77:40 as the sophomore headed home a ball off a corner kick to give San Francisco a 4-0 lead.
  • Although San José State would continue fighting in the closing moments, the green and gold held steady defensively as the Dons went on to take down the Spartans by a final score of 4-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Providing a big boost off the bench, Park was tabbed Player of the Game after finishing with his second goal and second assist of the season against SJSU.
  • Making his first collegiate start, William Krause also picked up his first career clean sheet as the sophomore tallied four saves across a full 90 minutes.
  • In addition to Park, Raphael netted his first collegiate goal on Monday night while Easley's goal marked his first in a San Francisco uniform after transferring from Clemson this past offseason.
