Dons Score Early, Blank Tigers in Second Straight Shutout

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Beginning conference play on a high note, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (2-5-2, 1-0 WCC) secured a victory in their WCC opener on Sunday afternoon as the Dons blanked Pacific (2-4-2, 0-1 WCC), 2-0, to record their second straight shutout win.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Wasting no time, David Raphael got the scoring started as the freshman used his left foot to blast the ball past the opposing goalkeeper and give San Francisco a 1-0 lead just 81 seconds into the match.
  • Less than three minutes later, the Dons doubled up the Tigers as Chris Maldonado found Isaiah Easley for his second goal of the week to push the score to 2-0 in favor of the green and gold.
  • Throughout the rest of the half, USF continued to pressure Pacific as Adrian Medina and Junhwan Park each fired shots on frame. Outshooting the Tigers 9-3 in the opening 45 minutes of action, San Francisco maintained their two-goal advantage at halftime.
  • Out of the locker room, Maldonado, Park and Mason Dougherty each got a shot off to begin the second half, but none were successful at extending the lead even further for the Dons.
  • With both offenses increasing the intensity, each team continued to mount attacks, but defense reigned supreme down the stretch.
  • With San Francisco going on to outshoot Pacific 11-8 in the second half, the green and gold held steady defensively to notch their second consecutive shutout victory with a 2-0 win over the Tigers at Negoesco Stadium.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Adding to their momentum, both Raphael and Easley scored their second goals of the week on Sunday after also scoring on Monday night against San José State.
  • In the cage, William Krause remains confident as the sophomore has now recorded back-to-back clean sheets in his first two collegiate starts.
  • As a team, San Francisco held Pacific to just one shot on goal in the match, marking a new season-best for the Dons. Overall, the green and gold have outshout their opponents in seven of their nine matches so far this fall.
POSTGAME WITH THE DONS: UP NEXT:
San Francisco will have a bye in the upcoming week as the Dons will return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 9 when they travel north to Spokane for a 6:00 pm matchup at Gonzaga. Live streaming and live statistics will be available via the team's schedule page.
