Dons Catch Fire in Crunch Time, Top Broncos for Third Straight Win

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The University of San Francisco (USF) men's soccer team (8-3-1, 3-2 WCC) pushed its winning streak to three as the Dons used another late surge to grab a victory, this time taking down Santa Clara (4-4-6, 1-2-2 WCC), 2-0, at Stevens Stadium - Buck Shaw Field on Sunday night.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • The two teams played an evenly matched first half, with both sides registering four shots in the opening 45 minutes. After the end of the first period, the match remained scoreless.
  • USF came out with more fire offensively in the second half, as the Dons would outshoot the Broncos 9-5 in the second half.
  • Continuing to search for their opportunity, the green and gold finally broke through in the 81st minute, similar to the match at Pacific on Wednesday, as David Raphael netted his fourth goal of the season on an assist from Alex Solomis to make it 1-0.
  • Sealing the victory for San Francisco, Jaggar Judkins danced through the Santa Clara defense in the 86th minute before pushing one past the opposing goalkeeper to double up the Broncos, 2-0.
  • USF would hold on defense for the remaineder of the match, securing their third straight win following two goals in the final six minutes of action.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Solomis tallied his third assist of the week on Sunday night, following his two-assist performance in the win over Pacific on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
  • Raphael's goal moves him into a tie for twelfth in the West Coast Conference (WCC) in goals.
  • As a team, San Francisco has recorded six shutouts this season - four being on the road. Lucas Jones is now tied for the league lead in shutouts with six.
  • With the win on Sunday night, head coach Chris Brown ties his most wins in a single-season, with a chance to set a new mark with five regular season matches remaining.
