Baseball Earns Narrow Victory Over Pacific in Series Opener

STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (16-22, 5-8 WCC) earned a 4-2 series-opening victory over Pacific (14-25, 2-8 WCC) Thursday night at Klein Family Field.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Pacific grabbed an early 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning as Andrew Sloan scored on a Drake Bicknell RBI single.
  • Following three scoreless innings for San Francisco, JT Amaral put the Dons on top in the fourth with a two-out triple to right field, plating Eddie Esquivel and Zack Ramppen for a 2-1 lead.
  • After the Tigers tied the game at two, Kenny DeCelle scored the go-ahead run for the green and gold with a solo home run over the left-field wall.
  • In the top of the seventh, Patrick Keighran slashed an RBI single through the left side of the infield, advancing Kody Watanabe home for an insurance run, extending the lead 4-2. Watanabe reached earlier in the frame with a leadoff double and moved to third on a TJ Rogers groundout.
  • Keeping Pacific off the board, San Francisco allowed just four baserunners in the final five innings to earn the narrow 4-2 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Gabriel Barrett earned his fifth start on the mound, pitching three solid innings, allowing one run on two hits, and matching a season-high five strikeouts.
  • Ramppen and Watanabe posted two hits apiece while combining for two doubles and two runs scored.
  • Amaral led San Francisco with two RBI, his third multi-RBI game this season.
  • Quentin Pohorski picked up his team-leading fifth save of the season as he pitched the final two innings, giving up just one walk and recording two strikeouts.
