BERKELEY, Calif. – Assisted by a pair of first-half goals, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (2-1) earned a 2-1 upset victory over No. 17 California (2-1) Thursday afternoon at Edwards Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco broke the scoreless tie in the 28th minute when Brayden Beason notched his second goal of the season, assisted by David Raphael.
- The Dons added another tally in the 31st minute of the first half on a goal from Samuel Atiye, his first of the season, to double the green and gold advantage to 2-0.
- California scored its first goal midway through the second half, when Alfredo Ortiz converted from the penalty stripe to trim the Golden Bears' deficit to 2-1 at the 55th minute.
- The Dons held on in the final minutes of the contest, recording their fourth win over a nationally ranked opponent in the last three seasons.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Beason's first-half goal marked his second of the season while tallying an assist to increase his team-leading point total to five.
- Atiye notched his first goal of the campaign while Raphael added his first assist.
- Lucas Jones collected two saves for the green and gold out of eight total shots from the Golden Bears.
