Summary

Biography

USF women's soccer welcomed assistant coach Katie Burton for the2011 season. An experienced assistant and a former college standoutat Sacramento State, Burton spent last season as an assistant coachat UNLV.

Before coming to USF, Burton spent the past year in her native LasVegas serving as an assistant coach for the Rebels. UNLV posted an11-8-1 overall record in 2010, a tear removed from a 5-9-5campaign. In addition to her on-field duties, Burton served as theDirector of Soccer Operations, for both the men's and women'sprograms, and was the UNLV Rebels Soccer Camp Director.

"I am extremely excited to join such a respected coaching staffwith Mark and Maite and eager to help this up-and-coming programreach the next level," Burton said.

Before returning to Las Vegas, Burton spent three seasons(2007-09) as the Graduate Assistant Coach at Sacramento StateUniversity.  She also served as the Hornet Summer CampDirector, as wells as, coached for the San Juan Soccer Club and anumber of other local competitive teams during her graduateassistantship at Sacramento State University.

Burton was a standout player for Sacramento State and capturedfour varsity letters.  After suffering a season-ending injury,Burton bounced back for a strong first season for the Hornets in2003, capturing All-Big Sky honorable mention selection and teamCo-MVP and Rookie of the Year honors. As team captain in 2006,Burton anchored the Hornets defense, playing on both the back lineand defensive midfield. For her efforts as a junior, Burton All-BigSky Second Team accolades and was named team Defensive MVP, liftingthe Hornets to the BigSky Championship game for the first time inprogram history.

Burton capped her collegiate career with a flourish in 2007 andpropelled Sacramento State to the Big Sky Tournament Championshipand the first NCAA Tournament berth in program history. Burton wasselected to the All-Big Sky First Team, the Big Sky All-TournamentTeam and won team Defensive MVP honors for the second straightyear. Sacramento State broke 24 Big Sky program records en route tothe NCAA Tournament.

Burton graduated in the spring of 2008 from Sacramento State witha degree in business with an emphasis in Accounting. She planspursuing her Master's degree in Sports Management at USF, startingin the Spring of 2012.
