2018 (SENIOR): Appeared in all 17 games, starting in 14… Logged 1250 minutes … Notched five shot attempts and two on goal … Started consecutive games against top-ranked teams UCLA (Sept. 2), Stanford (Sept. 7), Air Force (Sept. 14), Saint Mary’s (Oct. 13) and Portland (Oct. 26).
2017 (JUNIOR): Earned WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention honors…appeared in 10 games, making six starts…logged a season high 90 minutes against Cal (Sept. 17)…first start of the season game against UCLA (Aug. 26)…started five consecutive games against Indiana (Sept. 1), Stanford (Sept. 15), Cal (Sept. 17), San Jose State (Sept. 22) and Santa Clara (Oct. 8).
2016 (SOPHOMORE): Made nine starts in his 11 appearances on the year... registered seven shots with two shots on goal... played the full 90 minutes on three occasions: versus Cal State Fullerton (Sept. 16), Air Force (Sept. 18) and Portland (Oct. 14).
2015 (FRESHMAN): Named to the WCC All-Freshman team…started in eight of his 16 appearances on the year…stepped into the starting lineup to fill the defensive back line spot left by Mitchell McPartland’s injury…ended up starting every WCC contest…provided vital contributions to a USF defense that allowed the second-fewest goals in WCC play (6) and boasted the second-best goals against average during conference action (0.82)…took three shots with one shot on goal…logged a season-high 110 minutes in a 0-0 draw at San Diego (Nov. 6)…played a total of 881 minutes overall.
HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB: Attended Inaburra School...won the CALTEX All-Rounder Award for excellence in sport and academics...named Inaburra Footballer of the Year...won the Inaburra Medal For Outstanding Performance, recognizing achievement in both sport and academics...played club soccer with NSW Premier League U/20’s – Sutherland Sharks FC (2013/14) and NSW Premier League First Grade (Men's) Sutherland Sharks FC (2013/14)...also spent extensive time with Stoke City in the English Premier League and Burnley FC when he was 15 and 16 years-old...scored seven goals with eight assists in 20 games during the 2013-14 season as a member of the Sutherland Sharks FC...named under 20’s player of the year and vice captain in 2014...played with the Metropolitan Far South team, which was made up of elite players from the Premier League level, from 2009-2012, competing with the team at State and Regional Titles...was one of the top 25 players selected for the NSW team, competing in National Titles at end of the year (2010).
PERSONAL: Born June 17, 1995 in Sydney, Australia...parents are Rhys and Carly Hughes...majoring in communications...intends to get into the recruitment field after graduating from USF....held an ATAR of 92.90 in the classroom...took first place in his class in the following courses: HSC Extension 2 English, HSC Legal Studies, and HSC Modern History…completed work experience with Fox Sport News while in high school...also interned at Yahoo!7 working with their sport producers where he published over 20 articles working as their football expert, which led him to create his own football website/blog...his cousin, Nathan Walker, plays in the NHL for the Washington Capitals, and was the first Australian to be drafted into the NHL (2014)...describes himself as very family orientated...interests include music (especially hip-hop/rap), fashion, travel, going to the beach, and running and going to the gym.
