Box Score 2 LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of San Francisco volleyball team kicked off the 2012 season Friday at the opening day of the UniWyo Inivtational, earning a victory in the first match of the day but falling to host, Wyoming in the second.
San Francisco 3, Eastern Washington 1
The Dons won the first, third, and fourth sets to beat Eastern Washington 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-22, 25-22) in their opening game.
"This afternoon we played a really scrappy Eastern Washington team," said head coach
Gilad Doron. "EWU played great defense but we were able to spread our offense, score and come out with a win. I thought we could win it quicker than we did but in the end, grabbed a season-opening win for the first time in my tenure on the Hilltop."

Anja Segota each recorded double-doubles. Levig finished with a game-high 21 kills to go along with 14 digs, while Segota, a native of Pula, Croatia added 11 kills and 12 digs. Segota finished the match with a team-high .474 hitting percentage.

Valentina Zaloznik added 12 kills and led the Dons with three aces.
Senior setter
Leanna Ludes led USF with a remarkable 53-of-54 total assists for the Dons. The only other USF player with an assist was freshman outside hitter
Ester de Vries.
The Dons and Eagles played evenly early on in the first set, either neither team holding a sizeable advantage. San Francisco rallied mid-way through, down 9-8, it pushed to take seven of the next nine poins. USF never relinquished the lead, securing the opening set victory.
In the second set, EWU came out strong, going up 24-19 on USF, before the Dons could threat to take the set. San Francisco rallied for five straight points, tying the set 24-24. The Eagles then finished the Dons with two straight points to tie the match 1-1.
The third and fourth sets were much of the same, as both teams played close. Throughout both sets, either team held more than a three point lead on the other.
Wyoming 3, San Francisco 0
San Francisco dropped the second match of the opening day of the season, falling 3-0 to host Wyoming.
"We didn't play as well as we could this evening," added Doron. "We will learn from it and will be better tomorrow. Wyoming played really well in front of a great crowd with great energy. We were able to slow them down in the third game but we will learn to come out more foucsed and better prepared for the rest of the season."
The Cowgirls came out strong to take the sweep 25-17, 25-21, 27-25. San Francisco built momentum throughout the match but was unable to build a comeback.
Levig posted her second double-digit attack effort of the day, leading the Dons with 10 kills.
Alycia Cox fell just short of the marking, recording nine.
Rebecca Kopilovitch added a dozen digs for the Green and Gold.
San Francisco will return to the court Saturday as it faces Seattle and Presbyterian during the second day of the event. First serve against Seattle will be at 10 a.m.
