Complete All-Academic Team
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – A total of 20 student-athletes at the University of San Francisco earned All-Academic Honors from the West Coast Conference for their work in the classroom this spring.
The Dons' baseball, men's and women's golf and men's and women's tennis teams all had athletes receive academic honors with 12 student-athletes being distinguished as first-team and eight others as honorable mention.
At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports. To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team.
Nine players from the West Coast Conference Championship baseball team were included on the All-Academic team, led by redshirt sophomore
Jason Mahood, who has a 3.79 GPA as a Media Studies major. Other first-team honorees included: senior
Connor Bernatz (3.4, Business Administration), senior
Matt Hiserman (3.35, Sports Management), junior
Cameron Love (3.71, Business Administration), senior
Matt Lujan (3.5, Marketing) and sophomore
Kyle Zimmer (3.69, Business Administration).
Senior E.J. Kahn (3.71, Finance) and junior Mat Miller (3.36, Business Administration) were both first-team selections from the USF West Coast Conference Championship men's golf team.
The women's golf team earned a first-team selection in senior Tinna Johannsdottir (3.5, International Studies).
Sophomore Richard Bucalem (3.92, Business Administration) and junior Jacob Hartwig (3.36, Business Adminstration) were first-team selections from the men's tennis program, while Thai Tu (3.37, Business Administration) earned honorable mention.
Five women's tennis players earned All-Academic recognition with senior Jessy Mekpoh (3.96, Media Studies) leading the way with first-team honors.
Melinda Akerbrant (3.57, Communications), Cecilia Gratian (3.95,International Business), Yurie Hashiguchi (3.87, Business Administration) and Julia Wartenburger (3.76, International Business) were honorable mention selections.
"The West Coast Conference is very proud to honor and recognize these exceptional student-athletes for their exemplary efforts in the classroom and on the fields of play," said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. "Our institutions strive to balance academic achievement in the classroom with success on the field, and this list is evident of that effort."
