2011 SEASON: Set a new school single-season record in sacrifice hits (14)… second on the team in hits with 62 and fourth in batting average (.292)… played in all 57 games and started 56 of those games in right field… is fifth in career at bats (715), sixth in career doubles (46), ninth in extra base hits (58) and tied for seventh in hits (216)… was a Lowe Senior Class Award candidate… came up with his first two-hit game of the season at UCLA (2/19)… totaled three walks and two stolen bases against UC Davis (2/27)… went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a sacrifice bunt against San Jose State (3/15)… notched three hits with a triple and RBI at California (3/16)… finished 2-for-4 at Pacific with an RBI and a double (3/25)… turned in a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a sacrifice at Fresno State (4/2)… went 2-for-4 with a double against Saint Mary’s (4/8)… totaled two hits, two walks, an RBI and a run scored at Portland (4/16)… collected a season-high four RBIs on 3-for-5 hitting with two runs and two doubles against Santa Clara (4/22)… hit his first home run of the season with a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored against Santa Clara (4/23)… went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored against San Francisco State (4/26)… totaled a home run, walk, double, two RBIs and two runs scored at San Diego (5/8)… finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base against Pepperdine (5/15)… went 3-for-5 against Gonzaga (5/27)…drew two walks against UC Irvine in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional (6/4).
2010 SUMMER: Played for the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League champion team Bethesda Big Train… totaled 40 hits, 31 runs and 20 walks in 156 at bats and stole 10 bases in 11 attempts.
2010 SEASON: Played in 55 games and started 50… hit .303 with 25 RBI and 15 doubles… totaled 16 multiple-hit games… perfect fielding percentage in 91 chances in rightfield… went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in the first game of a double-header at Pacific and then 2-for-3 in the second game of the double-header (2/20)… totaled three RBI at Cal-Poly (2/28)… was 2-for-4 with a double against Cal State Bakersfield (3/9)… totaled two RBI, a double and a run scored on 2-for-4 hitting at San Diego State (3/14)… drew a walk, scored three times and went 2-for-3 at UC Riverside (3/19)… hit two doubles with an RBI and three runs scored on 3-for-5 hitting at UC Riverside (3/21)… hit a homerun and was hit by a pitch at UC Santa Barbara (3/27)… hit a two-run homer at Saint Mary’s (4/18)… notched two hits at New Mexico (4/20)… went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a stolen base at Loyola Marymount (4/23)… totaled three RBI on 3-for-5 hitting, which included a homerun and a double (4/24)… was 2-for-3 against San Diego (5/2)… finishing with a double, a stolen base and a sacrifice on 2-for-3 hitting (5/7)… posted two RBI and two hits at Santa Clara (5/8)… finished a stellar series at Santa Clara with two hits, including a double, a walk and a stolen base (5/9)… collected three hits against Portland (5/14)… went 2-for-4 against Portland (5/15)… notched three hits in four at bats at Pepperdine (5/28).
2009 SEASON: Saw time in 48 games with 33 starts as a sophomore... finished the season batting .252 (34-for-135), with 10 doubles, one homerun, 13 walks, and three stolen bases... had a great opening series, going 6-for-14 (.429) with a double, four runs scored and four RBI at the University of Texas-San Antonio (2/20-22)... doubled on a two-hit day in the first of four games at Riverside (2/26), then homered in the fourth game (3/1)... had a season high three-hit game at Washington (3/14) to start a season long six game hit streak in which he batted .478 (11-for-23) with three doubles, eight runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base... doubled twice versus Gonzaga (3/28)... doubled in consecutive games against San Jose State (4/21) and Pepperdine (4/24).
2008 SEASON: Started 48 of 55 games played as a freshman... batted .347 (second on the team) with 10 doubles, one triple, two homeruns, and 26 RBI... had 17 multi-hit games... stole three bases... started his collegiate career with a six game hit streak... had a seven game hit streak in which he batted .419 (13-for-31)... homered and drove in two RBI on a 2-for-4 day at UC Davis (3/5)... doubled and had three hits in his next game at UNLV (3/7)... doubled and drove in two vs. Fresno State (3/18)... went 4-for-4 with a double, a homerun and two RBI against Fairleigh Dickinson (3/20)... doubled on a 3-for-5 day versus Fairleigh Dickinson (3/22)... homered in the second game of a doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson (3/22)... had a three hit day at San Jose State (4/8)... went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI at Stanford (4/16)... had fourth three hit day including a double at Santa Clara (4/20)... had first of 5-for-5 days at Fresno State (4/23)... doubled twice at Pacific (4/29)... second 5-for-5 day came at home versus Stanford (5/6).
PREP CAREER: Played three years of varsity baseball at Mater De High School... batted .402 senior season, earning First Team All-League and Team MVP honors... was Team Captain senior year... also selected to Orange County All-Star Game... member of the Honor Roll and National Honor Society all four years.
PERSONAL: Born in August of 1989 in Hartford, CT... son of Robert and Kimberly Bernatz... goal for the season is to help the team in any that he can... chose USF for the atmosphere, coaches, people, location, and the high level of baseball... likes the food and restaurants of San Francisco... would like to be the President for a day... best advice he's ever been given is don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something... favorite quote is attributed to Abraham Lincoln, "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time"... most impressive person he's met is his grandfather... wants to start his own business after graduation... favorite movie is Remember the Titans... favorite book is Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy... favorite musical artist is T.I... favorite foods are steak, mashed potatoes and broccoli... hobbies include bodysurfing, sports, and reading... majoring in business.
