Volleyball Set For Three Games in Hawaiian Airlines Classic

THIS WEEK: The Dons face host Hawaii, California, and Baylor across the three-day Hawaiian Airlines Classic tournament. The Dons look to remain hot in their second tournament of the young 2012 season after going 3-1 last week.

WEEK THAT WAS: The Dons' are coming off a 3-1 weekend at the UniWyo Invitational tournament in Laramine, Wyoming. San Francisco won its opening game 3-1 over Eastern Washington before dropping their second game to tournament host Wyoming, 0-3. The Dons bounced back on the second day of the tournament, sweeping Seattle and Presbyterian 3-0. 

COACHING MILESTONE: Head Coach Gilad Doron is currently tied with Jeff Nelson with 76 total victories at USF. With one more win, Doron will become San Francisco's all-time winningest volleyball coach. Nelson, the head coach from 2003-06 , left USF with a 76-51 (.598) mark. Doron currently sits at 76-71 (.517).

SENIOR LEADERS: Senior Outside Hitter Jocelyn Levig led the way for USF with 49 kills in the UniWyo Invitational. Levig also led the way with four service aces. Senior setter Leanna Ludes paced USF with an impressive 128 set assists across the four games. Senior Middle Blocker Hadley Simmons led the Dons with 15 total blocks (4 solo and 11 assists), good for a 1.15 block/set mark.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS: The USF volleyball team was recognized by American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) earlier this year, as the Dons were awarded a Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 season.
