PROVO, Utah – The San Francisco Diamond Dons bats stayed hot Friday night, but Dons pitching was unable to close out BYU in a 10-9 loss at Larry H. Miller Field. The Dons mounted a two-run comeback with two outs in the ninth to tie the game, but the Cougars won it in the tenth on a walk-off home run by Kelton Caldwell. USF (31-20, 15-8 WCC) remains one win, or one BYU (25-19, 11-9 WCC) loss, away from clinching the second seed in the upcoming West Coast Conference championship tournament.

Trailing 9-7 after eight, and with two outs and no one on in the ninth, three pinch hitters came through for the Dons. Harrison Bruce singled to left, Brendan Hendriks was hit by a pitch, and Reyn Nagamine lined a single to centerfield that was misplayed, allowing both runners to score.

The comeback was short-lived though, as Caldwell hit the fourth pitch he saw from Logan West (0-1) into the night sky over the right-center field wall to give the Cougars a thrilling win and keep their postseason hopes alive.

Zachary Turner and Mitchell Rowan each drove in two runs for the Dons. Turner has driven in seven runs in two games in Provo, and extended his WCC-leading RBI total to 56.

BYU homered three times against Dons pitchers, tying a season-high for home runs allowed.

The series concludes tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for noon PDT. Live play-by-play is available at USFDons.com/live and a television broadcast is available on BYUtv.org.
