SAN FRANCISCO—The Dons put together one of their better weekends of the year and get a full week of rest to get ready from their match up with South Bay rival Santa Clara on Sunday.
It will mark the first time USF will play at home since the middle of September, ending a five-game road trip and stretch of eight of nine away from Negoesco Stadium.
OVER THE WEEKEND
USF opened conference play on the right foot by beating Loyola Marymount 1-0 on Friday night. The lone goal came from Mackenzie Krieser, her second of the season, and snapped a three-game losing streak. They followed it up with a tightly fought match at No. 11 Pepperdine and tied it in the 63rd minute on a goal from Sonja Giraud but fell short 2-1.
RETURN HOME
Sunday will be the first time the Dons will play at Negoesco Stadium since Sept. 14 and only the second time since August 31. USF played eight of the last nine matches away from home including a five-game road trip that included stops at Denver, Colorado and No. 11 Pepperdine. With road trips that include Boston, Colorado and Reno, the Dons have traveled nearly 10,000 miles during their preseason schedule.
#WCCPINK WEEK
San Francisco, along with the rest of the West Coast Conference, is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month by hosting pink games throughout the month of October. Sunday's match against Santa Clara will be a pink game and pink t-shirts and tote bags will be handed out to the first 100 fans in attendance.
LOOKING FOR REDEMPTION
The Dons go into the match against Santa Clara having never beaten their South Bay rival but recorded their first decision against the team with a 1-1 tie in 2012. San Francisco dropped last year's contest 9-0 at Santa Clara.
CONFERENCE PLAY CONTINUES
After the first weekend of West Coast Conference play, the Dons sit in a three-way tie for fourth place with BYU and Santa Clara and sit only three points behind Pepperdine, Gonzaga and Portland. USF plays five of its final seven matches at home.
TORRES' RETURN
Junior defender Leticia Torres left the team following its match at Harvard on Sept. 5 to join the Chilean National Team as they competed in Brazil in the CONMEBOL two-round FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Despite wins over Argentina and Bolivia, Chile was unable to get out of group play and into the final round. She missed five matches and the Dons went 2-2-1 in her absence.

SIGNATURE WIN AT BOSTON
The Dons picked up what might be their most impressive win under Jim Millinder when they traveled to Massachusetts and beat Boston University 1-0 on Sept. 7. After a Jessica Nakae goal in the ninth minute of action, USF held the Terriers to five total shots with only two being on goal. Boston is the defending Patriot League champion.
NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED GOALIE
Madalyn Schiffel, who was named to the All-WCC honorable mention team last season, participated in the Team USA U-20 camp in April with some of the best college players in the country. She recorded six shutouts last season and had 10 other matches where she only allowed one goal.
ABOUT SANTA CLARA
Santa Clara has won four of its last five matches and split its first WCC weekend by dropping its conference opener to Pepperdine and beating Loyola Marymount. Sofia Huerta has scored 10 goals on 51 shots this season and has scored six more goals than the next Bronco player. Goalkeeper Andi Toskanoski has allowed 15 goals through 13 games.
