Members of the Dons' baseball team wasted little time in getting acclimated to their temporary summer ball homes as many are off to great starts to the summer season.
Leading the way is junior righty
Mack Meyer, who has yet to allow a run in his first four summer appearances with the Bethesda Big Train. Meyer has transitioned from one of the Dons' go-to stoppers out of the bullpen during the regular season to a late-inning shutdown force this summer as he has only surrendered three hits in six scoreless innings of work, while striking out three and collecting a pair of saves.
Out in the Northwoods League, redshirt freshman left-hander
Scott Parker is putting together a fine summer with the Wisconsin Woodchucks, already owning a 3-1 record in five appearances (three starts) with a 1.87 ERA.
Redshirt sophomore right-hander
Grant Goodman has also been impressive so far this summer, dominating the West Coast League with a 0.83 ERA in three appearances (two starts) for the Corvallis Knights.
Fellow righty
James Kannenberg is competing against Goodman in the West Coast League, carrying a 0.86 ERA in his first three starts for the Victoria HarbourCats.
On the offensive side, junior infielder
Dan James is hitting a blistering .390 for the Healdsburg Prune Packers. James has been tearing up the California Collegiate League with three long balls, 12 extra-base hits and 19 RBI in his first 14 contests.
Sophomore infielders
Ross Puskarich and
Aaron Ping are providing the pop for their squad this summer, the Westhampton Aviators, as the pair has combined for eight home runs and 32 RBI already. Ping is tied for the Hamptons League lead with five home runs while pacing the league with 17 RBI so far, while Puskarich is hitting .292 with three homers and 15 RBI in the first 15 games.
Speedy outfielder
Matt Sinatro picked up where he left off during the regular season by successfully swiping his first seven bases of the summer and drawing 10 walks for the Shelter Island Bucks while leading the Hamptons League with a .500 on-base percentage.
