SAN FRANCISCO-- On a sunny, yet breezy day at the phenomenal Olympic Club, the USF men's golf team finished in a tie for seventh place after shooting a three round total of 879.
Fellow West Coast Conference member BYU claimed the team title after a grand total of 859 (+7). Saint Mary's came in second place after carding a 292 in the third round and a total of 867 (+15), while TCU jumped up four spots to finish in third after a field-low score of 285 in the third round. LMU completed the largest leap up the leaderboard, as the Lions jumped seven spots after a 285 total in the final 18 holes. Notre Dame and UC Davis finished in a tie for fifth after a total score of 876.
Riley Elmes of LMU and Stefano Mazzoli of TCU finished in a tie for medalist honors as both scored 3-under scores of 210.
Kraig McLeod shot a 5-over round 76 today to end the tournament field in a tie for 12th. The senior carded rounds of 74 and 67 prior to his third round to score a total of 217 (+4). McLeod finished as the low scorer for USF.
Freshman Tim Widing recorded a 16th place finish in his first event for USF. He tallied rounds of 75, 71 and 72 for a total of 218 (+5). Widing started the day with two birdies in the first three holes, but recorded a double bogey on hole 7. He would go on to score the back nine 1-under par after birdies on 14 and 16.
Henry Chung finished tied for 28th after scoring 221 (+8) over the three rounds. After a solid 73 and 72 in the first two rounds, Chung battled for the majority of the round. He would go on to finish the day strong with back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17.
Jalen Griffin and Raymart Tolentino both scored rounds of 75 today. Griffin shot 225 (+12) while Tolentino scored a 228 (+15).
Senior Michael McAuley claimed individual honors after a three round total of 220 (+7). McAuley recorded a 3-over round of 74 today, and recorded three birdies. He finished tied for 19th in the entire field of competitors.
Mathias Wentjarvi finished the two day tournament with a score of 227 (+14), while senior Max Alcorn finished right behind with a total of 228. Ashton Silk and Michael DeAngelo both carded three round totals of 237.
Up next for USF is the Alister McKenzie Invitational (Oct. 10-11). The invitational will play at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
