PORTLAND, Ore. – The USF volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-18) loss at Portland in West Coast Conference action on Thursday evening from the Chiles Center.
Emily Reed led USF (4-13, 0-4) with 10 kills on the night, while
Tyna Adamcikova chipped in with eight kills of her own and
Trish Koutsoukos dished out 11 assists.
Portland (9-6, 2-1) tallied the first point of the match before USF reeled off three straight points aided by a pair of kills by Reed. However, the Pilots responded with a seven-point rally that helped them capture the momentum. The Dons clawed back to within four following a Portland attack error that brought the score to 20-16 in favor of the Pilots, but that would be as close as USF would get as Portland captured the first set 25-19 with a kill by Reghan Pukis.
The second set saw Portland go on separate runs of seven points and six points to help keep USF at arm's length en route to a 25-8 set victory.
The third and final set had the Dons fall into a 12-6 hole before stringing together three straight points behind two kills from Adamcikova and a Pilot attack error. That helped USF stay within reach for the majority of the set, with another kill by Adamcikova cutting the Portland lead to 20-18. But the Pilots would close out the match with four kills and a block to wrap up the set 25-18.
USF returns to action at Gonzaga on Oct. 1 for a 12 p.m. matchup with the Zags.
