WSOC | Dons Travel to Pacific Northwest For Pair of WCC Contests

THE RUNDOWN
SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco women's soccer team takes its first conference road trip of the season this weekend, when the Dons travel to the Pacific Northwest to battle Gonzaga and Portland.

The Dons enter Friday's contest with a 4-7-2 record and are 0-2-0 in the WCC.  USF has lost three-straight dating back to a 3-0 loss at UC Irvine on September 22.  Last weekend, USF went 0-2 to open conference play, falling to Pepperdine 1-0 on Friday evening at Negoesco, but losing to visiting LMU 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Dons' top goal scorer this season is senior forward Sonja Giraud.  Giraud is currently 67th in the nation in total goals with six, that number is currently tied for third most in the WCC.  Sophomore keeper Olivia Camera is 22nd in the nation in saves per game, averaging 6.38 saves per contest, she is also seventh in the nation in total saves with 83.  Her 83 saves are the most in a single season since the 2013 season when Madalyn Schiffel recorded 87 saves that season.

Gonzaga enters this week with a 9-2-1 overall record, in WCC play they are 1-1.  Last weekend, they split their road series, defeating Pacific 2-1 before falling to the Gaels 1-0 on Sunday in Moraga.  In 2017, the Bulldogs have yet to lose a home game this season, with six wins and a draw against SMU.  They have outscored their opponents 21-5 at home this year.  Gonzaga has the 25th best scoring offense in the nation, averaging 2.33 goals per game.  India Jencks is ninth in the NCAA with nine goals and 15th in the national averaging 1.892 points per game.

Portland owns a 3-8-1 overall record and are 0-2-0 in the WCC after falling to Saint Mary's 2-1 and Pacific 2-0 last weekend.  Two of Portland's three wins this season have come on a game-winner in the final 10 minutes of regulation.  The Pilots entered the season with 14 returning letterwinners and seven starters, but the Pilots feature a young squad as they've regularly had multiple freshmen in the starting XI; three freshmen and a sophomore make up Portland's starting backline.
